I like Advanced Fighting Fantasy, it was the first game that I used to make my own game that I DM'ed. I have never played the original game: Fighting Fantasy, but it sounds cool, a game that combines a choose your own adventure and an RPG. I like that.
And because I like the idea, I want to make my own choose your own adventure RPG, the problem is, I want to make a unique choose your own adventure RPG, not one just like Fighting Fantasy. This post is a post where people can take a look at my process of thinking about making something unique.
First of all, I think I want a Core Rulebook for the game, like in D&D, oh! That is such a good idea! I could make the game unique by combining D&D and Fighting Fantasy! (Or D&D and Advanced Fighting Fantasy, I would just have to put the choose your own adventure element in the game).
Now I would just have to decide which version of D&D I would use. I like Old School a lot, so I think I'm going to use the original three booklets (yeah, I have them, you can buy them on the Dungeon Masters Guild online). I don't know all the rules yet, so any ruled I don't get I'm going to use the Swords & Wizardry: Whitebox rules instead, and then if I don't like those Swords & Wizardry: Whitebox rules, I'm going to use the 5e rules. I might also use the 5e rules for more rules.
So I've decided the systems I'm going to combine, now I should decide how the game is going to work.
I want the game to be available to more than one player, so maybe I could also use a Narrator who narrates the game to the player, however, he does not make the decisions, the adventure book he buys will tell him what happens.
Nah, I don't like that.
You know, maybe I could turn around a choose your own adventure RPG, so instead of the reader taking on the role of a character, its the reader taking on the role of the Game Master! I think someones done that before, but I'm not completely aware of it, and anyway, I think its a video game, not a role playing game.
However, I think I only want the reader to create dungeons, not adventures. Yes, I like that.
I want to include a main world for the game. I think I'm going to use my Sword & Sorcery world that I made for my session with the megadungeon in the sewers.
Finally, I need to decide the main core rulebooks I'm going to have. I think I'm going to use a Core Rulebook, The Main Land, and Dungeon Creators Guide.
There, that's good, see you next post!
